This unit was helpful in that it laid out the dos and don'ts of teaching special groups of students or individuals rather than groups of adults. These groups may include beginners, individual students, children, Business English or English for Specific Purposes, and monolingual or multilingual classes. It is important to understand how the different groups we teach have different needs and we must adjust our teaching style to adjust to those needs. For example. teaching children may have the benefit of high motivations and easier learning on their behalf, however they also have shorter attention spans. Thus, the curriculum needs to adjust to better fit their specific group. While one may earn a TEFL certificate and understand how to teach English, it is important to understand that the group that one is teaching has specific needs and they must be taught in a specific way.
