There are different ways to assess the students language levels. By tutorials, evaluation by the students and tests. There are different tests to be given throughout the course. Placement tests at the start to assist with the formation of groups. Diagnostic tests which indicate what they know and don't know at the beginning of the course. Progress tests enable both you and the student to see how they are progressing. And practice tests which allow the students to see how they would fare against the required stardard. Teachers need to evaluate their students English to see whether they are making any progress in their learning.
