Unit 11 looked at the skills underneath just learning words and phrases. Receptive skills refer to reading and listening because those are the skills needed to receive information. Teaching these skills in tandem with writing and speaking is important because it helps with understanding and comprehension. To me, receptive skills are the involuntary senses we use while using or learning a language. The use of these skills should be in every lesson if possible by varying the lesson topics and pre-teaching difficult vocabulary words or phrases to be preemptive about expected errors and mistakes.
