The purpose of learning a new language is to communicate in a new way. Like any other language speaking and writing are ways of communicating. Speaking takes practice, it should be done with both accuracy and fluency. The teacher must build up the confidence of the learner, establish an environment wherein he/she will not be judged by his/her mistakes nor be intimidated to speak. As much as possible, there should be tasks that the students will have sufficient talk time.
Writing is of equal importance as speaking. Factors that can affect the writing output like spelling, layout, punctuation, style of writing and creativity can be improved with extensive reading and exposure to the language.
