This unit focused on the receptive skills, listening and reading. Both skills go beyond using the senses of hearing and seeing, but also requires the learner to process the information in order to understand the meaning of the content. Reading and listening can pose potential problems for learners and teachers. In order to overcome or avoid these problems the teacher has to be mindful when selecting the topics and texts to be used when teaching these skills. It is recommended that teachers use topics or texts that are interesting and relatively easy to understand yet challenging.
