This unit discusses the roles and responsibilities of both teachers and learners. There are many ways to describe a good teacher. A good teacher is a person who is kind and lively, responsible and has a good knowledge of the subject. But for me the most important point for a good teacher is to be enthusiastic, love his/her job, be honest with students and motivate them. While teaching teacher can have many roles within a lesson. They are: 1. Manager or controller. 2. Organizer. 3. Assessor. 4. Prompter. 5. Participant. 6. Tutor. 7. Resource or facilitator. 8. Model. 9. Observer or monitor. Besides good teachers, there are also good learners who are eager to study, have a desire to ask questions, listen to a new language and experiment with it. Language level. Level Name of level Council of Europe Characteristics 1 Beginners Basic User, A1 - Breakthrough 0 – basic English, not easily achieved No experience at all. 2 Elementary Basic User, A2 - Waystage Basic knowledge of vocabulary, subject, verb, communicate on simple topics 3 Low/pre-intermediate Independent User, B1 - Threshold Discuss a range of topics but lacking fluency. Still make basic errors. 4 Intermediate Independent User, B2 - Vantage Discuss a large range of topics using limited vocabulary, lacking fluency and accuracy. 5 Upper intermediate Proficient User, C1 – Effective operational proficiency Discuss almost all topics using a greater range of language but still lacking in accuracy. 6 Advanced Proficient User, C2 - Mastery Have a good knowledge of English and learn more subtle language items. Common reasons for attending English classes. • For future career prospects. • For travel purposes. • To improve grades at school/ achieve success in exams. • To study or live in an English speaking country. • To communicate with colleagues/ friends/ partners. • Out of interest in languages.
