In this unit, I read about how to form and when to use different past tenses. Past perfect seems much easier to teach than present perfect. I think it is easier to illustrate the timing of a past perfect event along with a past simple event with phrases like "by the time" and "already." I liked the suggested activity of reading a story then retelling it backwards. I think this activity would very clearly help students understand how to use the past perfect tense. To take that activity to another level, the students could first write a short story which they then have to flip around. Then students could use more creativity, which they don't always get the chance to do.
