In this unit, I learned about Modals, Phrasal Verbs and Passive Voice. Modal auxiliary verbs are used to indicate modality (ability, permission, suggestions, likelihood, request, capacity, order and obligations) and examples of the verbs that are used include can/could, may/might, must, will/would, and shall/should. An example of using a modal auxiliary verb in a sentence could be; ‘My team might win the game’, that is showing that I am not certain that my team will win the game. Phrasal Verb is a combination of words (a verb + a preposition or verb + adverb) that when used together, usually take on a different meaning to that of the original verb. For example, She told Mary off (meaning that she told Mary what was on her mind in an aggressive way). Passive voice is used when reporting what someone has said to another person.
