I am learning what a nightmare the English language can be and this is coming from a native Californian born in the US.So many rules that only make sense after years of practice and truly understanding the structure of the English language. My main example being my personal favorite for nit picking, the indefinite article. How many times do I read something in FB or even the news and some popular books where these rules are forgotten and it just sounds/feels wrong due to a life time of speaking the language. It definitely makes me want to be as patient a possible with my students as I know from a life time of experience how difficult the rules of this language can be.
