It was helpful for me to understand the difference between receptive skills and productive skills. They are both crucial to students' understanding, but the emphasis on reading and listening is too important to be missed. I really enjoyed the sample ESA structured lesson with the engage phase to pique the interest of the learners and then pre-teaching the vocal so as to alert them to key words and phrases. I also benefited from the activate stage where students had to guess the famous person that the speaker was talking about. I think this generates interest and naturally leads to greater attention grabbing from the entire classroom.
