As a native speaker of English I had an awareness of nouns, verbs and adjectives from general education but not so much of a deeper explanation into the sub-categories, so this lesson was certainly an educational experience in breaking down the english language into explainable categories. I do feel more confident to be able to explain English to non native speakers now, and give students precise explanations for language mistakes. I have never studied linguistics so some of these terms are new concepts to me, such as gerunds. By the end of the lesson I was able to distinguish and group words into their correct functions.
