In this first lesson, it's important to establish rapport with the students by playing a short, fun game to engage them and get them talking in English, while also being able to learn more about them and they can learn more about you. I imagine it's more enjoyable for both the teacher and students if we get to know each other as people, and not just a group of individuals teaching and learning a language. I personally like the game "two truths and a lie", where you say two true things about yourself and one that is a lie, but it's important that it's something that could likely be true, and everyone has to guess what the lie is. I like the ideas given in the unit to cope with teaching larger classes, and when you sometimes have students that finish quicker than others, you can have an extra activity, such as a word search, for them to do until the rest finish. Other potential problems I may run into are students trying to use their native tongue, reluctant students, and difficulty with listening to texts. It's important to constantly encourage them to use English and to not respond when they try and speak to you in their native language. For reluctant students, it helps to put them in pairs which takes some pressure off of them speaking in front of the whole group. And with listening to texts, it will help to pre-teach the difficult vocabulary. You should play it several more times, and if it's still too difficult, as a very last resort you give them the text script.
