This lesson tackles the types and usages of past tenses and what are the teaching ideas that can be used in an activity. The first type of past tense is the past simple, it is used to express completed actions in the past. The positive form of the past simple is subject + past form of the verb (determine if it is a regular or irregular verb), and for the negative form subject + did not + verb. The past simple is used for completed past actions at a definite time. Second is the past continuous, it indicates that a certain action was in progress at a particular time in the past. The form of past continuous is subject + was/were+ verb+ ing. Third is the past perfect, it refers to a past action and related past action before that, the positive form of this is subject + had +past participle and the negative form is subject +had not+ past participle. Fourth is the past perfect continuous, it is used to express past action which started in the past and continued to happen after another action .the form of this tense is subject + had/had not+ been+verb+ing.
