Giving these two lessons in video form was extremely helpful. Seeing the right way and the wrong way of teaching a class back-to-back helped highlight the flaws (or correctness) in each setting. In the first video, the teacher came in with no introduction of himself nor did he establish any sort of rapport with the students by getting their names. The teacher in the second video was friendly and warm, and smiled throughout the lesson. He made a connection with his students right away by asking for their names the moment class was in session. He used examples before each activity or exercise, used pictures, mimed action, and if the students came up with answers that we not necessarily correct, he would respond with, "nearly" as in "you've almost got it." rather than shutting the student down with an intimidatingly blunt "no."
The teacher's attitude has such an impact of the success of the class!
