This unit covers speaking and writing, referred to as the productive skills. It's important for a teacher to distinguish when the focus is on accuracy versus fluency during an activity. The teacher should focus on accuracy during the study phase, and fluency during the engage phase. They are both equally important. Writing, on the other hand, requires a lot more input. Handwriting, spelling, layout and punctuation need to be taken into consideration when writing. And sometimes written language slightly differs from spoken language, which can make it harder for students to learn and understand.
