There are three main wan ways to evaluate students; tutorials, evaluation by student and tests. They each have their place in the classroom especially tests although some teachers don't like them due to students just memorizing instead of using their knowledge of the language. There are many different types of tests that students can take and tests like placement and diagnostic tests help teachers determine the language level of the students and what info the student knows and doesn't know. Some tests are given as a way to monitor progress (progress tests) throughout the course and some are to help with external exams (practice tests).
