Depending on where one is teaching, testing can be important. I never took tests in an adult learning class. When teaching younger students in part of a school system, then yes, testing will be required. I almost wish that testing was a part of the adult classes so I could determine where I need help, or to show proof that I should move up to a higher level class. I think that testing also motivates the teacher to get through more materials and make sure that students are indeed learning.
