I feel I have a better understanding of the roles of the teacher and student, the relationship between the teacher and student, and the levels of English proficiency, as well as some of the reasons why students begin learning English as a second language. I also understand that, as a native English speaker and an ESL teacher, I must not only display an accurate example of the English language, but be culturally sensitive to students, build a rapport and relate to them as well as keep classes interesting and varied, and provide gentle, encouraging feedback to students as they progress, in order to build and maintain motivation and self-confidence.
