This week I started teaching one-on-one lessons using the lesson plan format provided in this Unit. It has been immensely helpful especially in the aspect of thinking logically through the stages of the lesson and projecting the time needed for each section. I have found in practice that the sections take longer than projected, so having the plan written out as a record also helps me go back and note what needs to be adjusted for future lessons.
The biggest challenge I feel overall is how to decide what language points to focus on in each individual lesson. I spent time this week investigating recommended sequences for L2 acquisition (especially grammar). The information I found has been invaluable in structuring my lessons this week, and in general provides me a needed structure for visualizing the overall language teaching/acquisition process.
The most challenging part of the actual lesson plan so far is anticipating the problems that students might encounter in the lesson. After the initial lessons I gave this week, I am confident that the process of anticipating problems will become easier based on accumulated experience.
