In this unit the focus is on course books and lesson materials. I realised the importance of using authentic materials in a lesson and the effect it has on a students motivation and confidence. Yet of course, the use of the course book is vital, for it provides a fixed syllabus graded to a level suitable for students whilst being less time consuming. I think a teacher should create a balance when using authentic materials and the course book in which the the goal of the lesson is achieved (what needs to be taught has been explained), whilst the student is kept engaged and motivated.
