This unit focuses on different forms of testing, both within the language school and outside of it. Within school, teachers can start a course with a diagnostic test to see how much students already know and perhaps even measure the students' reasons for taking the course. Teachers should also regularly test students (progress tests) to see how they are doing with the material. Students may also be interested in or required to study for external tests, like the TOEFL if they want to study abroad, IELTS if they want to work abroad, or a number of other tests for basic competentence up to high proficiency.
