I want to start the unit reflection by stating that the two classes have been very different regarding their atmosphere, the speed/complexity/clarity of the teacher and the teaching style. Watching the videos and realizing the mistakes the teacher made in the first class is a great way of understanding how to behave in front of students. Moreover, it taught me that the teacher’s behaviour directly translates onto the students and therefore is very crucial for a positive class atmosphere. I learnt about the importance of using colors, being prepared before class (he already had notes on the board), using a lot of additional material and providing a class with a lot of interaction between the teacher and students, but also among the students. Additionally, the instruction for teaching in front of non-native have to be appropriate for their level of English and not too complex. The implementation of the Engage-Study-Activate stages was very visible in the second video and a great example for future classes.
