I've learnt that there are quite a few different methods of teaching a student depending on the stage he/she is at with a specific language, ex. English. Probably the most important factor throughout these different methods of teaching is that of keeping the student intrigued and engaged at all times through a variety of fun learning activities to make sure that they're never bored and yet at the same time ensures that they gain a vast knowledge of the language being taught. I've also learned that it is important to first engage students with simple activities such as games so as to determine their level of what they already know and where improvements need to be made. Secondly we develop on student's language necessities through study in which we practice and drill in the proper use of the language itself and correct mistakes after which we activate the students knowledge by encouraging them to use any/all of the language they know. The focus in this final stage is that of fluency and accuracy with no restrictions. This stage include role-plays, dialogues, communication games, debates, story writing. I've also learned that you have to know when and when not to intervene, provide feedback or make corrections and we as teachers should always focus on providing POSITIVE FEEDBACK to students so as to ensure that they enjoy learning new things about the language being taught and they're not discouraged to go on.
