I have learned that classes should provide a combination of authentic material, created materials that the teacher designs to supplement the course book, and the course book itself. When teaching from a course book, it is important to supplement with your own material to ensure that the students remained engaged and interested, and to make sure that you don't allow the use of a book to let you be lazy in your preparation.
