In my time learning languages, often most of the lessons were developed around a situation. These would be broad situations like "First Meetings" or "Going to School". Under this umbrella they would introduce vocabulary, structure, functions, and cultural aspects. I believe that knowing these structures and figuring out how to use them in relation to each other, similar to how I learned the languages I studied, will greatly improve the effectiveness of EFL teachers.
