I was previously in a teaching situation where the textbook was chosen for me and I was not allowed to deviate from the textbook. I was allowed to supplement but never omit. There were also situations in which I had no book and had to hand make the syllabus along with material. I've never given any consideration to the fact that all textbooks may not be suitable for my teaching aims. Now that I'm looking into teaching positions for after this course, it seems all the more important that I start thoroughly investigating the books.
