In this unit I learnt about how teachers should teach productive skills which include speaking and writing. As for speaking, teachers and students see it as a very important part of learning skill, they spend much more time on practicing it,as when speaking any misunderstanding can be clear up immediately and it requires a great degree of fluency as speaker will rarely has time to think. While as for writing, which it's the most neglected skill, teachers always would like to leave it as homework,as a result writing skills is never developed.it shouldn't be ignored.in many ways writing is the more difficult skill, requiring a greater degree of accuracy. each skill is equally important. In speaking class, many students can seem reluctant to speak, teacher must try to overcome the hurdles and encourage students interaction.doing some pair work or group work can be helpful.with certain activities we should allow students time to think about what they are going to say.don't be afraid of silence. In writing class,we should teach not only in grammar but also in spelling, handwriting, layout and punctuation.to help students learn the different layouts of writing ,they need to be exposed to ,and be given the chance to practice with many different styles.as well as creative writing should be encouraged.
