Unit 20: Troubleshooting was a quick but useful unit. It outlined the major potential obstacles a teacher may face, and how to deal with them or prevent them from happening.
I found the section on ‘first lessons’ to be quite interesting and useful. It described how the students may already know each other, and perhaps may not, and ice-breakers (warmers) that can be used to make the students more comfortable. This also aids in establishing the students’ different levels and reasons for learning English.
It provided a few useful tips on how to teach material to students of different levels within the same classroom. Some are quite simple but effective.
The other area that was noteworthy for me was on reluctant students. It outlined how to encourage students to participate, while still maintain a comfortable environment for them.
