The structure of past tenses is similar to that of present tenses, except that past tenses relate to the past time periods. Continuous forms have the verbs 'to be' and a verb formed with '~ing' ending. If the verb 'to be' is in the present, then it will be the present continuous. If the verb 'to be' is in the past, it will be the past continuous. Same applies to future tenses. Perfect forms have the verbs 'to be' and a past participle form of the verb. If the verb 'to be' is in the present, then it will be the present perfect. If the verb 'to be' is in the past, it will be the past perfect. Perfect continuous forms have the verb 'to have', plus 'been', and the '~ing' form of the verb. If the verb 'to have' is in the present, it will be the present perfect continuous. If it is in the past, it will be the past perfect continuous.
