The intricacies of language can sometimes give the impression that language learning is a rather tedious process. In fact, having to learn the grammatical blue print of a new language can scare anyone into thinking that running away from the challenge may be more gratifying than the benefits of learning it. Nonetheless, notwithstanding the hurdles language learners will face, once their mind begins to consciously and unconsciously absorb the new syntax, the language learner’s confidence level will increae. As a result, they will most likely begin to enjoy learning and soon communicating in a new tongue. This will serve as encouragement to continue to go forward with their studies. What was my point in all of this? My point is that in the same way I have struggled to get through this unit as a native speaker, I now have a clearer understanding as to how some students may feel and struggle when they are presented with foreign “grammatical equations” such as the Past tenses of the English language.
