The Course Books unit was useful in identifying the advantages and disadvantages of course books and making it clear that while professionally produced, they may not always fit the particular class or teaching circumstances being experienced. In particular the unit provided encouragement for teachers to critically analyse a course book and make adjustments (omitting material, replacing or adding additional material) so as to develop a customised approach targeted to the class being taught. The test provided also required some thought when considering the sequence of activities in the ESA approach.
