This Unit on "general theories about learning and development " has been both very informative from a practical perspective (actual class time with students) but the presentation of theory incited more questioning then expected. As a practicing EFL teacher in South Korea, I am very grateful for the ESA methodology. Prior to formal teaching here in a high school setting, I studied Philosophy, Mathematics, Science, and Business. From a practical perspective Unit 2 has been very helpful - how to create better create a student focused environment just from seating arrangements, different implementations of ESA to better focus on student needs, the explicit roles of a teacher in a classroom, and what students like or dislike for Group 1 and 2. These sections will definitely enhance the learning experience for my students when implemented correctly and enthusiastically. I do wish that from a theoretical perspective, more references for each theory were given. It would allow the teachers learning from ITTT, to get a better in depth perspective of what is happening on theoretical side of ESL instruction. From this extra reading and or research, a new practical method may be constructed that can positively change and enhance the "teaching paradigm" of the instructor. Nonetheless given the limitation of time, the practical aspects of Language Learning and Theory were given concisely. Therefore as a teacher, the material can quickly translate to improvements to pedagogy and thus better student language learning and acquisition.
