Unit 3 describes level testing- ITTT uses 5 different levels (starter, elementary, pre-intermediate, intermediate and upper intermediate. Common European framework does not have pre intermediate. Description of each level is provided. Needs analysis through questionnaire to understand previous learning experience, English usage and how it is most beneficial to the learners. Limiting factors teachers face include employers’ expectations, time constraints, resources, cultural issues and students. Different syllabus should be adopted (structural for grammar, functional for communication, learner led and situational for scenario based learning). Some considerations when planning material include duration of the course, ability of students; leave some flexible time to cover things that were missed. Remember to include revision session and progress test. There are 6 types of test and each has their own specific function, some are carried out before the lesson starts some at the end of the course. Remember to mark the test, annotate and return ASAP and discuss common mistakes. Brief intro on CYLE tests at 3 levels (starters, movers and flyers). Course evaluation is valuable for the teacher to gain insight on what he is doing right, allow feedback from the students and identify strengths and weaknesses to make improvements in the future.
