Writing and speaking skills are just as equally important as reading and listening skills when it comes to learning. Although speaking skills tend to be practiced more while writing skills tend to suffer a bit due to neglect. It is true that speaking skills do need to be stressed a bit, focusing on the accuracy and fluency of how the student is interpreting the language. However, writing should have just as much focus as speaking does. In my personal opinion, every student learns differently. Some students learn better visually, others may learn better via auditory, white others learn better via writing on their own. When organizing lesson plans for the week, it might be best to set aside a day or maybe two where students can focus on their writing skills. Possibly making the activity into pair or group work even depending on what kind of writing activity is being done for the lesson. The writing activity can then turn into a speaking activity. For example, if you have two students working together on creating a story about a trip they want to plan for over the summer. Together they can write out their ideas and then the next day, everyone can discuss summer trip ideas with the rest of the class.
