Within Unit 4, we learn about the four different present tenses and what makes each tense different from the other. From the first look, it can be seen as to how an English language learner can have some extreme difficulty differentiating between the tenses. Even as a native speaker of the English language, it was difficult for myself to read some of the differences between each tense and then to write different examples of each tense. It became prevalent as to how someone who is completely foreign to this language can easily become confused and frustrated once beginning this topic within a classroom setting. When in reality, a confused and frustrated student is the last thing you want because then you feel as though you are not doing a proper job as an educator. For native English speakers, the present tenses just come naturally when we are speaking as well as when we are writing. However, there can be times where we will easily slip up mainly due to the fact that this is something that wasn’t really taught to us, it was barely touched upon within our own schooling. Personally, I feel as though the present tenses are a topic that may need a bit more lesson time for the students as it can be a relatively tough topic for them. Without grasping the knowledge of this, it will make it harder for them to grasp onto other topics within the future, especially other tenses. The present tense is used a bit more frequently and thus, will be worth the extra time spent within the classroom for each student to have a better understanding.
