As an Instructor in the Army I relied heavily upon creating lesson plans for all of my lessons. It was generally within the same structure as outlined in the unit. I found them extremely useful, particularly when I was inexperienced, not only for providing me with structure and a format but it also provided me with confidence. As mentioned, flexibility is the key to a successful lesson and that will come with experience as will the detail that goes into a lesson plan.
