The unit focused on teaching pronunciation and phonology which turned out to be a lot more complex than I expected it to be due to the fact that there are so many moving parts that are all connected! Parts native speakers probably never even consider!
It highlighted key aspects of intonation which examined the varying patterns such as rise/fall, fall/rise and ways in which these are used, along with techniques for teaching same to students.
The phonemic alphabet was the most intriguing of the topic for me, as I often look at the pronunciation of the word when I use the dictionary. I found it quite interesting how as a native speaker I can understand and know how to pronounce a word (or so I thought) but not take into consideration so much now the sound of the word would be spelt.
Overall, this topic really opened my mind to paying more attention to the placement of my tongue and the manners in which I produce sound, this so I am better able to teach and explain and sound new word vocabulary to my students.
