This unit has focused on the teaching of vocabulary. I love the description at the beginning of the unit using the pictorial language of grammar being the trunk and branches of language and the leaves being the enhancement bringing beauty and variety into the picture! Initially it could be described as a tree in winter with the bare branches being symbolic of the basic language structure, and then as Spring comes, so the leaves form to embellish the language and to paint a greater picture!
It is so rewarding teaching children the basics of the language and then, as they develop a greater command of the language, their abilities to branch out into new vocabulary, brining a greater description, coloring in their verbal pictures with more descriptive embellishments!
