This unit introduced both receptive and productive learning skills but concentrated on receptive skills. It identified the different motives for reading and listening and discussed the different skills required to be an effective reader or listener: predictive skills, looking for specific information, skimming and scanning, deducing from the context. The practical part of the lesson made learners use the ESA lesson plans again, thus helping us work through planning lessons effectively using the materials available. I find this the most useful part of the process as the practice helps me internalize the need to do the preparation well.
