Watching the two different video lessons was really helpful in noticing how the teacher's method can have a huge impact on the class. During the first teaching video, the teacher came into the classroom and jumped into the lesson right away without introducing himself or letting the students introduce themselves. The teacher also continuously held his notes in his hand and went through the grammar lesson quickly and incompletely. His movements seemed very nervous, like constantly moving. He didn't really check if the students understood the material and slow his lesson to accommodate, instead he just seemed frustrated with them when they were confused. When some students came late to class during the first lesson, he completely stopped the lesson to reprimand them. In addition, during the activate phase of the first lesson with the handouts, he did not explain how to to the practice, he just said for the students to read the directions by themselves and when he went over the answers he did not do so clearly and did not even write the answers in a clear manner on the board. While the students were doing the activity the teacher used his phone and also watched out of the window when he could have been using the time more effectively to prepare for the next part of the lesson. The second video lesson demonstrated a much better lesson. The teacher took the time to introduce himself, the class and what the topic of the lesson was going to be. He thoroughly explained the lesson material and engaged the students with examples, and giving feedback on their answers. When a late student came in, the teacher didn't let that stop the flow of the lesson and instead just offered the student a seat. The teacher also participated in the class activity and treated the students with respect throughout the entire lesson. It is amazing just how much the demeanor of the teacher can impact the classroom.
