This unit was very short and summarized a lot of points that were brought up in previous units. I think the topic about how to run the first day of class was helpful but also continued off of some earlier course material. I think the first day of class is extremely important because the first day can set the whole tone and atmosphere of the course for many of the students. Students can also learn expectations of their teacher as well as what they can expect from the course. The first day is also important for the teacher to make his or her best impression on the students. The tips for what to do when there are different levels of students in the class and also what to do with large classes was good. I also think that avoiding the use of the students native language is important but I wonder if it would not be better to be able to thoroughly explain grammar items to beginners in their own language. I have studied several foreign languages while in school and all of them have used some English when explaining grammar items especially in the beginning courses for that language and further courses then transition over to being completely immersive into the language of study. I think the section about reluctant students can be helpful in some situations but I wish there were some more tips on what to do if the student is reluctant to participate not because of their lack of confidence in their language skills, but because they might just not want to be enrolled in the course but feel forced to go anyways. Maybe they have no interest or no motivation. I have also encountered students who have started crying during the lessons because they felt lost and were upset with their own lack of English skills when compared to their classmates. Overall I think this unit was a bit of a summary of running a class.
