This unit dealt with how teachers can share vocabulary, grammar and functions with students. It showed techniques in which each of the three could be delivered in the three stages of teaching/learning (I.e. Engage, Study, Activate). It highlighted the criteria for teaching vocabulary as this is dependent on factors like spelling and pronunciation and similarity or familiarity (be it to the students’ own language or to English words they are already familiar with). The unit spoke to ways grammatical structures can be introduced and it was noted that special care should be taken to indicate the meaning, use, forms and patterns, and the language in its spoken and written forms. Finally, it highlighted how language functions can be taught using a typical boomerang ESA which teaches the students how to use the language in the right contexts of agreeing, inviting, refusing or suggesting in formal, informal and tentative or technical situations by way of (ultimately) role playing.
