This unit discusses the advantages of course books and authentic materials in the classroom. As a teacher, I prefer using both. I found the explanations in this unit very helpful to my understanding of why I don't only use books in the classroom with my students. Today, there is so much information available that one textbook would not be effective for teaching students. In my classroom, students need variety when learning about world history. The textbooks are usually very dry and wordy. I supplement with activities, discussions, videos, and games to help students achieve success with the lesson.
