Here Below you can check out the feedback (for one of our units) of one of the 16.000 students that last year took an online course with ITTT!

This unit brought to the fore effective ways in which one can teach receptive skills - reading and listening. It was noted that these skills (along with speaking and writing which are thought to be productive skills) are very important in the learning process and should be incorporated in lessons as much as possible. The unit highlighted the ways in which we read and listen, sometimes for a purpose, other times for entertainment. Whatever the purpose, we employ one of five specialist skills to gain understanding of the text we’re reading or what we’re hearing/listening to. It is important to note that problems can arise from teaching these skills and as such, keen attention should be placed on the use of the language (shorter sentences are better than lenghtier ones, and moving from familiar to unfamiliar vocabulary will allow for the learners to feel more comfortable and confident in what their learning). In order to boost self confidence and ease students into learning, it is essential to teach them new words and phrases related to the text before diving into reading or listening exercises. Instead of using authentic texts from the get go, the use of non-authentic texts will make it easier for students to grasp language content more suitable to their levels of understanding as this focuses more on what they do know than on what they don’t. Finally, choosing various topics which are likely to be of interest to the students will likely increase motivation and also create and foster an environment in which they are eager to learn the language.
