Unit 17 makes a list of most commonly used equipment during teaching, and how to use them efficiently. We have the white- or blackboard, that teachers need to use in an organized way (using colons, colors, less capital letters, neatly, erasing when no longer necessary and making the students involved in the writing). They can also be interactive whiteboards, who can make things easier for the teacher (less time consuming, and could be more adapted to an activity). But like with every other electronic device the teachers need to be sure they know how to use it and have a back-up plan. Teachers also have the overhead projectors, that can be used for some activities like gap-file exercises, reading, showing grammar and vocabulary. We then have visual aids (photos or pictures) or worksheets and work-cards, that can be used for the study or activate stage, and act as games, prompts, cues, etc. To train listening skills with the use of audio (and video), teachers have the cassette player, CDs and DVDs. Teachers also can use books, like dictionaries (English to English might sometimes be better for the students, to train reading and comprehension, and to see the words in context), course- and resource-books (allowing the teacher to add or supplement the coursebook with different material, by making photocopies). Finlay, we have computers and online resources, that could be used by students (writing emails, watching videos, games or exercises for example).
