Unit 11: Teaching receptive skills, talks about how to teach reading and listening. They can be for a purpose (listening to directions) or entertainment (reading a fantasy bock).
One of the most important things for a lesson targeting mostly the teaching of a receptive skill, is the topic. The students need to be interested in the topic, in order to fully participate in reading or listening. Enthusiasm for a topic can be created through different engage activities, such as listening to songs, looking at picture, discussing the material or predicting what a text is going to talk about before reading it entirely. And the material needs to be chosen accordingly to the students level and the aim of the lesson: length, difficulty, vocabulary, etc. are some considerations that have to be taken into account when choosing a text or dialogue.
There are diffirent specialist skills, for different goals: scanning (when we're looking for something in particluar), predicting (what the text could be about), detailed reading (to know everything the document talks about) or skimming (to get a general idea).
