I've been looking forward to this lesson since I started this course. If you think about English, compared to other languages, in theory, it should be one of the easiest languages to learn. We don't have formal or informal speech and we don't have gendered speech, like Spanish. So why is it one of the hardest languages to learn? I believe it is because of pronunciation. In my studies of Korean, when you look at their vowels, they all have one sound, and never deviate from that. ? sounds like "eo" and always sound like that no matter what other letters are around it. Whereas, in English, the way that we say "a" varies word to word, i.e. apple, again, saw, aviary. And then when we combine vowels, it is even more difficult and inconsistent. It is no wonder it takes people so long to learn English. Native english speakers can't even explain why "through" and "dough" sound different.
