A good teacher should be kind, patient, lively, he/she should love teaching, be able to motivate students, have deep knowledge and communication skills. A good teacher should care about his/her teachers and even more about the learning of the students. During a lesson a teacher has such roles as: Tutor (to guide and support students, to give them encouragment) Manager/Controller (to take control over class activities) Promoter (to promote students to use English, not their native language) Participant (to participate as an equal, not as a teacher) Assessor (to give a feedback, evluating, grading, correction) Organizer (to organize students to do different activities) Resource and facilitator (the teacher devises activities that allow the students to get on with the process of learning by themselves) Observer (to monitor what is going on in the class room) Model (the teacher is an only source of real English) A good learner: Willing to listen to the language Willing to ask questions Want to experiment with the language Want to learn Can accept his/her errors Age gradation: Adult (18<) have a life experience, are highly motivated, more nervous about new learning experience, want to be able to match a new language with their native, have a good attention span Post puberty (13-18) not motivates, self-consious, do not want to experiment with the language Pre puberty (8-12) more receptive to new sounds, words, grammar Pre schoolers (<7) have a short attention span, make mistakes even in their mother language, like fun games, other kinds of entertainment Language level: Begginenrs (from zero to basic knowledge) Elementary (students are able to form basic structures and communicate on simple topics) Pre-Intermediate (studets are able communicate on variaty of topics but make many errors) Intermediate (students communicate on a wide range of issues but still lacking in accuracy and fluency) Upper Intermediate (students still lack some accuracy but are able to discuss a very wide range of topics) Advanced (students have deep knowledge and study more subtle language items)
