Here Below you can check out the feedback (for one of our units) of one of the 16.000 students that last year took an online course with ITTT!

One big idea in this unit is the importance of building rapport with students. I have realized that when I know not only my students’ names, but also facts about them like where they are from or what sports they like to play, they tend to pay attention and perform better in class. Student and teacher relationships are actually the biggest prevention for behavior issues in class. I rarely discipline anymore while teaching because I don’t have a need for it. On the rare occasion when a student does act up, he or she is alone in doing so, and often the other students “side” with me out of respect, which is quite a profound and meaningful notion. Another interesting part in this unit was the variety of student grouping and desk organization they suggest. At the beginning of the year, I like to have my students in a horseshoe shape, but towards the middle of the year, I arrange them in rows. The reasons for this are that the horseshoe shape builds class community, trust, and a level of comfort. Later in the year, I move them in rows as the content becomes more rigorous. If I left them in a horseshoe, they would be so comfortable with each other that I wouldn’t be able to get them to stop talking!
