Past tenses are similar to present tenses, except it relates to things that happened before. Past simple is an -ed or -d added to the base form. It can be very tricky for learners to grasp the irregular verbs such as base form go to past simple form of went. Another example of this is the base form of be to the past simple form of was/were. Past continuous has a pattern of subject, was/were, verb+ing. Past perfect tense has the pattern of subject, had, past participle. Lastly, past perfect continous has a pattern of subject, had, been, verb +ing. This lesson reaffirms my belief that sometimes its better to just speak the language with native speakers to naturally learn the tenses as native speakers do.
